Once you understood the KDM/certificate workflow fully, it is relatively easy to test KDMs/DKDMs on your own systems. e.g. you can export your decryption leaf certificate, assign it to a separate DCP-o-matic instance (another machine, or another user account on the same machine), then issue KDMs towards your first instance, test decryption, etc.
