Bot countermeasures

Post by carl »

Hi all,

I'm adjusting some things in the forum software to try to fix problems caused by a crazy amount of unidentified bot traffic. There were over 2000 unique users accessing the forum at one point today.

I also turned off search for people who aren't logged in (to see if it helps) so if you need to search please make sure you are logged in first!

Please let me know if you see any strange problems when using the DCP-o-matic forum.

Best,
Carl

I don't notice any side effects so far.

That's good. Things seem to have calmed down a bit now, but I'm still blocking a couple of /16s to stop them overloading the database server.

Just came up on a "too many connections" error on mantis.
Database connection failed. Error received from database was #1040: Too many connections.
I couldn't go on 'my view', but I could go on the general list.
No other tab on the browser was open, but that may as well be irrelevant.

Yes there's another big attack underway, thanks for the note.
