2:39 film but wrapped in 16x9 container for temp DCP screening

Post by humanthecat »

Hello!

My film is supposed to be shown at 2:39 cinemascope however it is not done yet and I need to create a DCP for playing in a cinema.

I am exporting a ProRes file from Avid so I can only export 16x9, when I create the DCP, in the container option, should I select DCP Flat or DCP scope in this case?

Thanks for your help!

If you are screening in a cinema, you choose DCP Scope and you crop what shouldn't be there.
Read here as well, but -by default- you won't need to scale manually.

(I didn't know Avid can not export but 16:9.)

Edit: The fact that the screening is temporary shouldn't affect the way you go. I mean, you don't want the screening to be letter- or window-boxed, I suppose.

Can you show us a screen grab of your 16:9 master, so we can get a better idea of aspect ratio and possible letterboxing?
